Different Menu Prices in Korea: What to Check Before Ordering

If two menus show different amounts, first check whether they describe the same item, portion and included services. A translated menu alone is not evidence of overcharging. Ask the seller to explain a difference before agreeing to the order.

Three situations to check

1. Two menus with different numbers

Point to both entries. Check the portion, set contents, taxes or additional services and whether a promotion has conditions. Ask which total will apply to your order. Do not assume either language version is automatically correct.

2. No displayed price

Ask for the amount before ordering, eating or accepting a service. Have the seller write the total down if spoken numbers are unclear. You can choose another business if you cannot agree on the price.

3. A suggested set

Check exactly what is included and whether it suits your group. A set can cost more than a single dish without being misleading. Ask for the individual-item option and compare the same quantities.

A question to show staff

한국어 메뉴와 이 메뉴의 가격이 다른 이유가 무엇인가요? 같은 양인가요? 추가 요금을 포함한 총액을 알려 주세요.

Why are the prices on the Korean menu and this menu different? Are the portions the same? Please tell me the total including extra charges.

If you have already paid

Keep the receipt, menu photos, business name, time and the agreed order. Record what happened accurately, without publishing unsupported accusations or other people's personal information. The tourist complaint center explains which tourism-related disputes it handles. You can also seek tourism assistance through 1330. A complaint is not a guarantee of a refund or a legal finding.

Read the menu with SnapKorea

SnapKorea can help interpret photographed text and prepare a Korean question. It does not establish that a seller broke the law or that an amount is a verified fair local price. Recheck the original digits and confirm the final total with staff.

FAQ

Is a price difference automatically unlawful? This page does not make that legal determination. The item, conditions, displayed information and applicable rules matter. Seek advice from the relevant complaint service.

Which menu should I trust? Compare both and have the seller confirm the exact order and total before you agree.

Can a photo prove overcharging? It can help document the displayed information. It may not show the portion, extras, agreement or full context needed to assess the charge.

Point your camera at a menu, meter or label. SnapKorea helps explain the text and prepare a Korean question. Confirm the original information and full price with staff.
