Taking a Taxi in Seoul: Pickup, Fare and Arrival

If you miss public transport, open late-night help. Keep your group and luggage together in an open, staffed place while checking alternatives. Do not assume an airport train or daytime bus is still operating.

1. Find your pickup point

Follow airport taxi signs or use a marked rank or an established booking service. Ask an information desk if unsure. For a booking, match the vehicle plate and actual pickup point. Confirm that your group and luggage fit before loading, and do not leave with a vehicle you cannot identify.

2. Confirm destination and payment

Show the full Korean address from your accommodation booking. A photograph of the entrance can help distinguish similarly named places. Confirm the fare basis, tolls or booking fees and payment method before boarding. A foreign card or app registration may fail; a data-only SIM may not support ordinary calls. Ask your accommodation or staffed rank for help if needed.

Show the driver: 이 주소로 가 주세요. 이 카드로 결제할 수 있나요? 통행료나 추가 요금이 있나요?

Please go to this address. Can I pay with this card? Are there tolls or extra fees?

3. Understand the fare basis

The Seoul Metropolitan Government fare page lists regular-taxi late-night surcharges of 20% at 22:00–23:00 and 02:00–04:00, and 40% at 23:00–02:00. Vehicle classes, approved booking products and other charges can differ. Check the current page and your actual booking; a single airport-to-city range cannot establish whether your particular total is fair.

Ask whether the fare uses the meter or an approved separate fare plan. Have staff explain anything unclear before boarding. A photographed number alone cannot establish the full charge for an unknown journey.

4. Arrive and keep a record

Wear your seat belt. Check the total and ask 영수증 주세요. — Please give me a receipt. Collect all luggage and your phone before the vehicle leaves.

If you dispute a charge, keep the time, route, plate, booking and receipt. Seek help without arguing in the road. The tourist complaint center explains tourism complaint procedures; 1330 provides tourism assistance. This does not guarantee a refund or immediate intervention. Check current service hours. For immediate danger call 112; for fire or an urgent medical emergency call 119.

Before the next evening out

Save your Korean accommodation address, check your last connection and walking distance, and keep a backup payment method and enough phone charge. Travel help covers transport questions and recovery steps. Use the pre-trip checklist to prepare before arrival.

FAQ

How much will my airport taxi cost? Confirm the route, vehicle, meter or booking basis, tolls and other charges before boarding. Traffic and booking conditions can affect the total.

Can I use a foreign card? Confirm with the service or driver before loading luggage. Payment in the vehicle and card registration in an app are different checks.

What if I cannot book after midnight? Stay with your group in a staffed place and ask your accommodation for help. Use late-night help to check currently operating alternatives.
